The Commander Air Force, Lt Gen Charles Okidi, has urged newly graduated officers to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism as they take on leadership roles within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).
“Each of you, regardless of your background or gender, has shown that excellence knows no boundaries. Uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. Integrity is not just a word, it defines the character we expect from you as new leaders,” said Lt Gen Okidi.

Lt Gen Okidi, who represented the Chief of Defence Forces, made the remarks while presiding over the graduation of 54 officers who completed the Squadron Officers Course at the Air Command and Leadership Training Centre in Nakasongola.
Lt Gen Okidi noted that the graduation marked a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation and professionalisation of the UPDF Air Force, which has made notable progress over the years.“
The Chief of Defence Forces recently pointed out that the UPDF Air Force is becoming one of Africa’s most promising. This progress is evident in the quality of training offered at this college,” he said.
He encouraged the officers to serve with pride and honour, assuring them of the UPDF’s support as they “soar to new heights” with careers defined by courage, excellence, and the UPDF’s unwavering spirit.
He cautioned them to avoid behaviour that could tarnish the institution’s image, particularly fraud and corruption.
Lt Gen Okidi commended the College’s Commandant, Brig Gen James Muhwezi, and the entire instructional team for their unwavering dedication to shaping the officers into capable and responsible leaders.
“Your efforts have created an environment that fosters learning, discipline, and camaraderie. You have instilled in these officers the values of service, integrity, and professionalism,” he said.

Brig Gen James Muhwezi, the college’s commandant, noted that the course was designed to enhance command and leadership capabilities in line with the UPDF’s professionalisation agenda.
He congratulated the officers on their achievement and urged them to meet the expectations of their future assignments, having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills.
The ceremony was attended by senior UPDF officers, including Maj Gen David Isimbwa, Deputy Commander Air Force; Brig Gen David Gonyi, Chief of Staff Air Force; Brig Gen Richard Rubongoya, Director Human Resource – Air Force; Brig Gen Saad Katemba, Director Training – Land Forces; and Brig Gen Justus Rukundo, Commandant of the Oliver Reginald Tambo School of Leadership and Pan-African Centre of Excellence.
