ABOUT THE SCHOOL
The College of Logistics and Engineering (COLE), formerly called the School of Logistics and Engineering (SOLE), was established in 1987. By that time, it was located at Mengo-Kakeka which is currently the home of Mutesa 1 Royal University. It’s from there that it was relocated to Jinja Barracks in Jan 1988. In 2001, it was attached to the Field Engineering Regt in Masaka Barricks currently the Hqs of Armoured Brigade. In 2006, it was relocated to Magamaga Cantonment, but with no home of its own. This necessitated this School to be integrated with the then newly established Uganda Military Engineering College (UMEC), which almost marked the end of its existence.
On 16 Jun 11 during the strategic meeting at former UMEC Hqs, the CDF directed that logistics training for the UPDF be given priority. Pursuance to the strategic guidance by the CDF in collaboration with the office of the then Chieftaincy of Logistics and Engineering (CLE), now Joint Staff Logistics (JS Log) and the then Chieftaincy of Training and Recruitment (CTR), now Joint Staff Training and Doctrine (JS TRADOC), the idea of re-establishing COLE was born. The college was subsequently re-established.
It is planned that the college will be affiliated with Uganda Management Institute (UMI) and Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC) for Diploma and certificate studies. The college currently is composed of the College HQs and six Training Wings, namely:
-
- Research and Publication.
- Arms and Ammunition Management.
- Supply and Materiel Management.
- Equipment Support
- Catering
- Transport
The Army policy of modernization and professionalization requires the right training and equipment in order for the National Army (UPDF) to fully meet its constitutional obligations. The training Directives from the MoDVA HQs require that courses be conducted in order to meet the army professional manpower requirements. Training of logistics officers is a priority to ensure effective and efficient logistics support to the army at all times.
