The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) contingent serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) has been urged to maintain high levels of security awareness amid an unpredictable operational environment.
Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja, the UPDF Contingent Commander, addressed officers and soldiers in AUSSOM Sector One, emphasising the importance of constant vigilance and sustained combat readiness.
“All troops must remain alert and prepared at all times,” Brig Gen Kayanja said.
He highlighted discipline and teamwork as essential pillars for defeating the enemy.
“We come from different units, but here we work as one force. We must respect one another.”
The Sector One Deputy Commander, Colonel Francis Obita Aragamoi, called on the troops to embrace perseverance, endurance, and patience, qualities he said distinguish soldiers from civilians.
He referenced the enduring spirit of the National Resistance Army (NRA) patriots, whose dedication laid the foundation for the UPDF’s current successes.
The meeting brought together senior and junior officers, as well as non-commissioned officers.
