The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), in partnership with the Somali National Army (SNA) and Human Smile, conducted a medical outreach in Bariire town, Lower Shabelle Region.
The outreach was organised by Human Smile, a Belgium-based international non-profit humanitarian organisation, as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare and humanitarian assistance for vulnerable communities.
Mr Muhammed Aburishida, a representative from Human Smile said the initiative was aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and promoting better health among the local population.
Bariire District Commissioner Mr Ahmed Busur welcomed the initiative and commended the organisers for extending healthcare services to the community. He called for similar interventions to be expanded to other parts of Somalia where communities need medical support.
The Second-in-Command of the Battle Group, Lieutenant Colonel Gideon Lucky Muhumuza, said the outreach demonstrated the importance of collaboration between humanitarian organisations, AUSSOM and Somali security forces in improving access to essential healthcare and strengthening relations with local communities.
Lt Col Muhumuza said joint initiatives involving AUSSOM, the SNA and humanitarian organisations contribute to saving lives while promoting peace and stability in Somalia.
The outreach was attended by the Commander of FOB Bariire, Major Charles Opolot, SNA commanders and other security personnel.
