The District Commissioner of Barawe, Mr Umar Abdullahi Mohamed, has commended Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) for fostering strong relations with the local community.
Mr Abdullahi made the remarks during a meeting with the Commander of Battle Group 45, Colonel Justus Musenene, at the Battle Group headquarters in Embresso.
He praised AUSSOM troops, particularly the UPDF contingent, for their contribution to maintaining security and supporting civil-military activities aimed at improving the welfare of communities in Barawe.
The District Commissioner observed that the cooperation between the local leadership, communities, and AUSSOM forces has been instrumental in creating a conducive environment for peace and stability.
On his part, Col Musenene appreciated the people of Barawe and district leadership for their continued support and cooperation, which he said has contributed to the success of AUSSOM operations in the area.
He pledged that Battle Group 45 would continue working closely with the community and supporting initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and stability in the region.
The meeting was attended by the Battle Group 45 Operations Officer Major David Okema, Political Commissar Major Fred Emuron, and Engineer Major Charles Baraza, among others.
