Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja, Deputy Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 4th Infantry Division, presided over the handover of command at the 1 Tank Battalion.
Outgoing Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Chris Matua passed leadership to Major JB Agaba during a ceremony held at the Division headquarters in Gulu.
Lt Col Matua now assumes his new role as Brigade Commander of the 701 Armoured Brigade. Brig Gen Kayanja lauded his exemplary service in both national operations and international peacekeeping missions, praising his leadership and unwavering commitment.
Addressing the officers, Brig Gen Kayanja highlighted the weight of their responsibilities, urging adherence to discipline and wisdom. “Discipline is the key,” he affirmed, emphasising loyalty to leadership and respect for subordinates. “Without your team, success is unattainable.”
He further stressed the importance of teamwork, calling for collective responsibility and continuous improvement through open communication and collaboration.
The event was attended by brigade commanders, staff officers, and senior military personnel, showcasing the battalion’s unity as it enters its next phase under fresh leadership.
