Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces soldiers from Gaddafi Barracks undertook a cleaning campaign in various parts of Jinja City to mark Tarehe Sita’s activities.
Among the areas cleaned were the Children’s Hospital, Jinja Main Referral Hospital, Madivhani Market, and Jinja Main Market, among others.
The Cantonment Commander of Gaddafi Barracks, Brig Gen Emmanuel Kanyesigye, who led the cleaning initiative, stated, “Tarehe Sita, on the 6th of February, marks the day in 1981 when the NRA guerrilla war that liberated Uganda was launched.”
“We are now celebrating 44 years by conducting these civil-military activities as a way of giving back to the people who are our strategic partners and the backbone of our success.”
He added that these activities are part of annual celebrations held in different regions, and this year, the main celebrations will take place in the Greater Masaka region.
Mr. Aspa Mugabe, the administrator of Jinja Main Referral Hospital, commended the UPDF for choosing the hospital for the cleaning campaign.
He said, “This is a manifestation of a pro-people’s army and a demonstration of social corporate responsibility to the community, which was not the case with previous armies.”
The cleaning campaign involved local civilians, social workers, UPDF officers, and militants, among others.
