Military Police troops were tipped on how to ensure the security of examination containers and keys.
The briefing was conducted by Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) officials from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) led by the Manager, Examination Management, Mr James Turyatemba and his team at Buyala – Nsuujumpolwe Training School.
A total of 420 Military Police troops, including 32 route commanders (officers), are being trained to participate in Phase Two of the Primary Leaving Examination due to begin in early November 2026.
The participants were told to have an eagle eye in ensuring that they can foresee, detect, predict, intercept and curtail intentions of unauthorised individuals who intend to access the examination box.
Turyatemba said the Military Police possess a gate pass for learners while providing security for the examination countrywide. He applauded the soldiers for making the task achievable by exhibiting the highest level of mental and spiritual upkeep.
The examination manager also urged them to always remember the key aspects such as key, container, box, integrity, security, safety and gun, saying this will keep them on track to avoid making mistakes in the field.
“Treat everyone who comes near you as an enemy until he proves he is a friend,” Mr James said.
He added: “A trained soldier should lose examination keys when he has stopped breathing.”
He said keeping trust between UNEB and the military would result in constant cooperation, coordination and assurance for examination security.
Mrs Rose Nabukenya, the principal examination officer who led the demonstration on box, container and key handling during management of the station, tipped the soldiers on the key times for opening and closing of the examination container and reminded them that identifying authorised people to hold the key and access the container and avoiding temptation remains a duty of every officer in uniform.
The Commandant of the Military Police Brigade, Maj Gen William Beinomugisha, told the 32 route commanders that the security of examination protocols and personnel are in their hands and they will be answerable for any breach of protocol as it undermines the image of the UPDF since this is a national duty.
