The Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of South West State of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Osman Mohamed, has commended Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) for their contribution to peace and security in the Barawe Sub-Sector.
Minister Mohamed made the remarks during a visit to the Battle Group 45 Headquarters at Embresso in Barawe District, where he met the Battle Group Commander, Col Dr Justus Musenene.
The visit provided an opportunity for the minister to interact with the Battle Group leadership and appreciate its efforts in maintaining security in the area.
“We acknowledge the good job you are doing here in Somalia, especially in the Barawe Sub-Sector. Your efforts are visible and the people are enjoying the benefits of security,” Minister Mohamed said.
He commended the UPDF troops for their role in combating terrorism and urged them to maintain high morale and remain committed until Al-Shabaab is completely degraded.
Minister Mohamed also emphasised the importance of continued cooperation between Uganda and Somalia, noting that the two countries share a longstanding relationship that should be strengthened and maintained.
Col Dr Musenene thanked the minister for visiting the Battle Group and briefed him on the prevailing security situation and operational activities of AUSSOM troops in the region.
He reaffirmed the commitment of AUSSOM forces to fulfilling their mandate and achieving the mission’s objectives.
Col Dr Musenene also called on Somalis to resolve their differences amicably, saying peaceful resolution of disputes contributes to stability, harmony and sustainable development.
The minister was accompanied by Barawe District local leaders and UPDF officers.
