Commandants of Senior Command and Staff Colleges from East African Community (EAC) Partner States have been urged to implement recommendations agreed upon during their meeting to ensure military training institutions remain responsive to emerging security challenges.
The call was made by the Commandant of Uganda’s Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka, Major General David Gonyi, while closing a two-day meeting of commandants from EAC Senior Command and Staff Colleges held in Kampala.
“The recommendations that we have come up with today, if implemented, will go a long way in shaping the way our major colleges continue to adapt and even think ahead of the ever-evolving security environment that confronts us today in our region,” he said.
He commended the participating commandants for their commitment to the meeting, noting that the engagement provided an opportunity to share experiences, challenges and best practices from their respective institutions.
Maj Gen Gonyi also thanked the Chief of the Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for hosting and facilitating the meeting, and commended the EAC Secretariat for coordinating the engagement.
As part of the meeting, the delegates visited the Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka, where they toured the War Gaming Centre.
The meeting was held under Article 2 of the EAC Protocol on Cooperation in Defence Affairs and forms part of the EAC Defence Sector Calendar of Activities.
It brought together commandants and representatives of Senior Command and Staff Colleges from EAC Partner States, Defence Attachés, Defence Liaison Officers and representatives of the EAC Secretariat.
