The Deputy Commander Land Forces, Major General Felix Busizoori, has commissioned 24 housing units and a classroom block at Mountain Infantry Division Headquarters, Muhooti, in Fort Portal.
The housing project, he said, forms part of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces’ strategic leadership’s efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of officers and soldiers across the force.
Maj Gen Busizoori said the construction of new housing units was among the initiatives championed by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, during his tenure as Commander Land Force, and which has continued across different UPDF divisions.
“The CDF’s vision was to improve the housing conditions of officers and men of the UPDF. Now that the houses are complete, go ahead and occupy them and use them well,” he said.
He cautioned the beneficiaries against becoming too comfortable with the new accommodation at the expense of preparing for life after military service.
He said infrastructure development, particularly the construction of accommodation for UPDF personnel, would continue despite the limited resource envelope.
“Resources are still limited, but we shall continue to squeeze the available resources and build until all officers and men have good houses for themselves and their families,” he said.
Belatedly, Maj Gen Busizoori commissioned a two-classroom block at Mountain of the Moon Primary School and advised the Division to make effective use of construction committees to supervise infrastructure projects.
Speaking at the function, Mountain Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Stephen Mugerwa, thanked the UPDF strategic leadership for considering the Division for the housing project, saying the initiative would improve the welfare of its personnel.
The function was attended by senior and junior officers.
