The Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, hosted his visiting South Sudanese counterpart, Gen Santino Deng Wol, to a dinner in appreciation of his visit.
The dinner at Serena Kigo was attended by the SSPDF CDF and members of his delegation, while Gen Kainerugaba was joined by the Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Johnson Byabashaija, ESO Director-General, Joseph Ocwet, and ISO boss, Charles Oluka.
Other generals present at the dinner were Deputy CDF, Lt Gen Sam Okiding, UPDF Air Force Commander, Lt Gen Charles Okidi, the Deputy Commander Land Force, Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, and the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, Maj Gen James Birungi. The 4 Division Commander, Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, and the 5 Division Commander, Brig Gen Keith Katungi, also attended.
The South Sudan chief stressed the links between Ugandans and the South Sudan people, saying “we are one people”. Gen Santino said that he was amazed when he once visited Kampala, at a place known as Arua Park, and found many South Sudanese. He thanked Gen Kainerugaba for a warm reception, saying he had been received and treated very well.
His host, Gen Kainerugaba, thanked him for his visit and noted that their two militaries would enter a new chapter of renewed relations for the betterment of their countries.
The dinner followed a meeting that afternoon, where Gen Kainerugaba and Gen Santino held talks at the Defence Intelligence and Security Headquarters, discussing regional security issues of mutual interest.
