Leaders of Operation Wealth Creation have been urged to ensure prudent use of public funds and promote productive investments to increase household incomes, accelerate poverty reduction and sustain Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
The call was made by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Joint Staff Political Commissariat, Major General Henry Masiko, and the UPDF Reserve Force Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Mwanje Ssekiranda, while addressing OWC leaders in Kyankwanzi.
Representing the Chief of Defence Forces (General Muhoozi Kainerugaba), Maj Gen Masiko commended OWC for its contribution to national stability and development.
He urged the leaders to preserve the principles of Uganda’s liberation struggle and pass them on to the younger generation, noting that peace and stability enable citizens to engage in productive economic activities, improve their livelihoods and raise their standards of living.
On the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Development Forum, Dr Edward Katende, called for stronger oversight, sound financial management and effective monitoring to ensure that the programme benefits its intended beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the Director of Manifesto Implementation in the Office of the President, Grace Bashaasha, highlighted OWC’s role in implementing the NRM Manifesto 2026–2031. She called for greater emphasis on human development, regional integration and institutional collaboration to accelerate national development.
Relatedly, Brig Gen Mwanje urged OWC leaders and veterans to encourage their children to enrol in the Presidential Industrial Hubs initiative to acquire practical skills and improve their prospects for employment and economic self-reliance.
Brig Gen Mwanje described the Presidential Industrial Hubs initiative, championed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as an avenue for equipping young Ugandans with employable skills in trades such as welding, tailoring, carpentry and construction.
He encouraged OWC leaders to identify eligible children aged 18–35 and guide them through the application process. He further advised them to verify the current admission requirements, including possession of a valid National Identity Card, and keep their discharge cards available for verification where necessary.
“Let us turn this opportunity into action. Encourage your children to register, follow up with the responsible authorities, and ensure they do not miss this chance to build a productive future,” Brig Gen Mwanje said.
He called on veterans to remain united and uphold discipline, integrity and patriotism while advancing their welfare and creating better opportunities for the next generation.
“Our service is our legacy; empowering the next generation is our responsibility,” he said.
The OWC leaders are in Kyankwanzi for a week-long engagement aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and improving the delivery of government programmes.
