The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) golf team has returned from Kenya after taking part in the 16th International Military Sports Council (CISM) Golf Championships, held at the Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort in Diani.
The week-long tournament, which commenced on 22 June 2025, brought together military golfers from 19 countries, showcasing intense competition and remarkable skill on the course.
Uganda was represented by a seven-member team, whose strong performance earned admiration throughout the event. A notable highlight was Lt Col Evelyn Asiimwe’s achievement in the Senior Women’s category, where she secured a silver medal, marking a significant accomplishment for the UPDF.
Leading the delegation was Brig Gen Richard Karemire, Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports and Culture, who emphasised the importance of the event in advancing military diplomacy. “The convergence of delegations from across the world affirms our belief in sports as a bridge for dialogue, building trust, and fostering international partnerships,” said Brig Gen Karemire.
The championship was officially opened by Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Charles Kahariri, who noted that such international events play a crucial role in reinforcing professional ties and promoting shared military values among the participating nations.
