The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) recovered a rifle and several pieces of military gear in Lamwo District following the arrest of a suspect during a night patrol on Monday.
The arrest occurred at approximately 8:00 pm on 7 July, when soldiers from the 1 Dumisha Brigade apprehended 24-year-old Okot Charles, a resident of Irumo Village, Ngasino Parish, Agoro Sub-County.

Upon questioning, the suspect led the soldiers to a concealed location where a cache of military items had been hidden. The recovered items included one SMG rifle (serial number 56-121201110) with six rounds of ammunition, a bayonet, a UPDF belt, a T-shirt, a bonnet, and a South Sudan military uniform.
Authorities revealed that Okot had earlier been involved in a bar altercation in Irumo Parish and had allegedly returned after the incident, firing several rounds into the air with an AK-47 rifle.
Commander of the 1 Dumisha Brigade, Lt Col Mubangizi Ipolito, commended the local community for its support. “We thank the people of Lamwo for the continued partnership in maintaining peace and security. The UPDF remains committed to protecting all Ugandans and their property,” he said.
