The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has expressed deep condolences to the family of Ssembusi Fred, who was fatally shot by Lt Zziwa Bashir on 26 June during a political rally in Lwemiyaga, Sembabule District.
Maj Gen Deus K. Sande, Commander of the Armoured Division, represented the Chief of Defence Forces at the condolence visit, delivering a message of sympathy and a cash contribution of three million shillings to support burial arrangements.
In his address, Maj Gen Sande strongly condemned the killing and assured the bereaved family and mourners that the incident is being thoroughly investigated.
He emphasised that the UPDF does not tolerate unlawful conduct by its personnel and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to justice. “This is a painful incident, and as UPDF, we do not condone such actions. We assure the family and the public that this matter will be handled with the seriousness it deserves,” he said.
Maj Gen Sande further pledged that the UPDF would implement necessary measures to prevent similar incidents.
The ceremony was attended by Lwemiyaga County MP Hon Theodore Ssekikubo, the Resident District Commissioner, local council leaders, and community members.
