Lt Col Charles Okech assumed command of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 4 Infantry Division Training School in Lugore, Gulu District. He took over from Lt Col Michael K. Ssempijja in a handover ceremony presided over by Division Training Officer, Col Innocent Tukashaba.
In his remarks, Col Tukashaba praised both officers for their professionalism and strategic competence, stating that their appointments reflect the UPDF’s confidence in their leadership capabilities.
He also acknowledged the UPDF leadership for its continued efforts to develop commanders for both national and international responsibilities.
Outgoing Commandant Lt Col Ssempijja expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the role and pledged his full support to his successor. “It is my expectation that we shall continue to fulfil our duties and maintain operational excellence,” he said.
He credited the leadership of the 4 Infantry Division for their support during his tenure, which he said enabled him to manage the training school effectively. He further advised Lt Col Okech to maintain strong coordination with the District Security Committee, especially in managing issues affecting the local community, such as unexploded ordnance.
Incoming Commandant Lt Col Okech thanked the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with the role and promised to lead with integrity and transparency.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers, departmental heads, instructors, and other staff members.
