The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, today welcomed His Excellency Ambassador Johan Borgstam, the European Union Special Representative for the Great Lakes Region, at the Special Forces Command Headquarters, reaffirming the strong security partnership between Uganda and the EU.
The meeting served as a follow-up to the initial discussions held in November 2024, highlighting the continued dialogue between the Ugandan Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the European Union.
In his remarks, the CDF expressed Uganda’s appreciation for the EU’s sustained commitment to regional stability, citing the EU’s Great Lakes Strategy.

The CDF also hailed the consistent friendship and technical cooperation with the EU, calling it a cornerstone of this strengthened partnership.
In today’s meeting, Gen Kainerugaba and his guest particularly discussed the role of UPDF’s external operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), South Sudan, and the Central African Republic.
On his part, the EU envoy thanked the CDF for the opportunity to meet and hailed the role of the UPDF in regional peace and stability.
The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Jan Sadek, Head of the EU Delegation to Uganda, and his deputy, Mr Guillaume Chartrain as well as the UPDF Chief of Joint Staff Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba and Brig Gen Paddy Ankunda, the Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security – Defence Engagement and
International Affairs.
