The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, this morning met with Sudan’s Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Uganda at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.
The diplomat was accompanied by Maj Gen Dr Faisal Al Tayeb Ali Khogali, the Military Attaché of the Republic of Sudan to Uganda.
During the meeting, the Ambassador commended the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces’ (UPDF) role in promoting regional peace and security. The Sudanese diplomat expressed Sudan’s eagerness to restore military cooperation.
Gen Kainerugaba welcomed the Ambassador and expressed Uganda’s optimism about achieving total peace in Sudan. The CDF also acknowledged the longstanding relations between the two countries, dating back to when Sudan allowed UPDF to pursue its enemies in present-day South Sudan.
Gen Kainerugaba also highlighted Uganda’s willingness to cooperate with Sudan, mirroring its partnerships with other African countries.
The Chief of Defence Forces has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to strengthen regional partnerships, recently meeting with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss security cooperation, peace initiatives, and economic collaboration. He has also met several regional Presidents and African military leaders.
