The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division has opened a refresher course for militants from Intake 05 to strengthen their military skills and prepare them for deployment in the operational environment, at the Division Headquarters in Moroto.
The trainees are among recruits who passed out on July 9, 2026, from Olilim Basic Military Training School and drawn from units affiliated with the 3 Infantry Division.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Division Commander, Brigadier General Michael Walaka Hyeroba, described the refresher course as an important component of professional career development in the UPDF.
He urged the trainees to uphold UPDF values, protect the image of the force and remain mindful of the reasons that motivated them to join the military.
“You joined an institution which has rules and regulations, and you must know your role in the UPDF,” he said.
Brig Gen Walaka encouraged the trainees to approach the course with a positive attitude and take the training seriously, saying it would help prepare them for the realities of military operations.
The Division Operations and Training Officer, Colonel Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye, underscored the importance of continuous training in responding to an evolving operational environment.
“Training sharpens military competency and strengthens strategic security partnerships,” Col Mashereka said.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Division Commander, Colonel Winston Mugarura, brigade commanders, the Division Administration Officer, heads of departments, and other senior and junior officers.
