The Chief of Staff – Land Force of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Major General Chris Bagonza, has commissioned newly completed infrastructure projects at the 1 Infantry Division Headquarters in Kakiri, Wakiso District.
The commissioned projects include 36 housing units and a new quarter guard, all constructed by the UPDF Engineers Brigade as part of ongoing efforts to improve soldiers’ welfare and enhance military infrastructure.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Maj Gen Bagonza thanked the President of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for prioritising the construction of accommodation for soldiers.
“These houses will help soldiers who have been renting outside the barracks reduce their expenditure, as they now have a place to stay,” Maj Gen Bagonza said.
He commended the UPDF Engineers Brigade for delivering quality work, describing the construction as highly professional.
Maj Gen Bagonza noted that improved infrastructure enables soldiers to live within the barracks alongside their commanders, strengthening command and control and enhancing operational effectiveness.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Commander of the 1 Infantry Division, Brigadier General Fred Mwesigye, as well as officers and staff of the division.
