The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) is mourning the loss of Brigadier General Tom K. Kabuye, a decorated officer whose career was marked by courage, integrity and an unwavering commitment to peace and security.
Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba conveyed his condolences through Major General Richard Otto, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, describing Brig Gen Kabuye as a steadfast and exemplary officer.
Gen Kainerugaba reflected on his service during the National Resistance Army struggle, where he held key command and staff roles. “The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the departed General,” he said at the interment in Kavule, Kikyusa Town Council, Luwero District.
He hailed Brig Gen Kabuye as a source of inspiration within the military.
“His passing signifies a profound loss for all who collaborated with him, the military fraternity, his family, and the nation. We will sorely miss his sagacity, counsel, bravery, and inspiration,” Gen Kainerugaba remarked.
Born on 9 November 1962 in Kavule village, Luwero District, Brig Gen Kabuye joined the UPDF on 1 May 1982 and rose through the ranks to Brigadier General. He served as Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security and chaired the Contracts Committee at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA).
Maj Gen Otto described him as a dependable officer of the highest integrity. “During our tenure in intelligence, I recognised General Kabuye to be an exceptionally dependable officer,” he said, pledging the UPDF’s support to the bereaved family.
Mrs Rosette Byengoma, Permanent Secretary of MODVA, paid tribute to Brig Gen Kabuye’s patriotism and dedication, calling him a loyal officer and freedom fighter.
Mrs Edith Buturo, Under Secretary of Finance and Administration at MODVA, praised his drive and reliability.
Family and friends expressed appreciation for the condolences received.
His daughter, Nakayiza Susan, thanked the President and CDF, while Ssegendo Fred described him as composed and deeply committed to his community.
The burial, attended by UPDF generals, senior and junior officers, clergy, politicians and cultural leaders, reflected the high regard in which Brig Gen Kabuye was held.
He passed away on 7 September 2025 in Kikyusa Town Council, Luwero District, leaving behind a lasting legacy of service and devotion to Uganda.
