Kamuli Recruits Begin UPDF Training After Official Flag-Off

Eighty-two successful recruits from Kamuli District have been officially flagged off to Kaweweta Recruit Training School in Nakaseke District, marking the start of their journey in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).

The ceremony, held on 13 August 2025, was presided over by the Resident District Commissioner, Mrs Birungi Rose, who described joining the UPDF as a rare and valuable opportunity. “Your fellows have failed, but for you, the lucky ones, go and shine in our army,” Mrs Birungi told the recruits, noting that Kamuli District has produced many soldiers who have risen through the ranks. She emphasised that discipline is essential for success in the army and that being part of a disciplined force gives the young recruits a significant advantage.

The recruits were selected from the ongoing national recruitment exercise, which began in early August after an online application drive targeting Ugandans eager to join the UPDF. In the Busoga Region, the physical recruitment targets eleven districts and one city, aiming to enlist 969 candidates.

Brigadier General Jackson Mpande Kajuba, the Team Leader for Busoga Region Recruitment, congratulated the recruits for their resilience, endurance, and ability to meet the required standards. “Keep your health jealously and give training priority to become leaders of tomorrow,” Brig Gen Kajuba advised, urging them to maintain discipline and work hard in the professional army.

He reminded them that the army is their first home and encouraged them to serve with dedication, patriotism, and skill. “Remain patriotic, show your expertise, and be able to guard your country well,” he added.

The Kamuli recruitment exercise was conducted at Kamuli Youth Centre and will also enlist candidates from Buyende and Kaliro districts.

The event was attended by local leaders from Busoga and Kamuli, alongside members of the UPDF recruitment team.
