EAC Defence Intelligence Chiefs Pledge Stronger Regional Security Cooperation

Defence and Military Intelligence Chiefs from the East African Community (EAC) have renewed their commitment to enhancing regional security cooperation, information sharing, and operational effectiveness.

The pledge was made during a high-level meeting of intelligence leaders that concluded today in Entebbe.

Speaking at the closure of the meeting, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Land Force Commander, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga stressed the importance of sustained collaboration and raising operational standards across the region. He urged participants to align their efforts with the year’s strategic priorities, guided by knowledge, best practices, and ethical responsibility.

Lt Gen Muhanga highlighted the need to incorporate diverse viewpoints and experiences within the intelligence community, noting that partnerships and regular information exchange among security agencies are key to addressing emerging threats. “As we move forward, let us acknowledge the challenges before us, but confront them together with unity, determination, and purpose,” he said.

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, Maj Gen Richard Otto, commended participants for their engagement, noting that the exchange of ideas and strengthened cooperation had achieved the meeting’s objectives. “Your presence here is a powerful affirmation of the value placed by you and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces leadership on regional security partnerships,” Maj Gen Otto said. “We look forward to your guidance and reflections as we build on this momentum.”

The meeting brought together senior intelligence officials from EAC partner states to review progress and explore future areas of joint action in safeguarding regional peace and stability
