Speaker Among Impressed By UPDF Engineers Brigade Works on Mandela National Stadium, Namboole

The Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Anita Among, commended the UPDF Engineers Brigade for their exceptional work on the renovation of Mandela National Stadium during an inspection tour today. “When I was coming in, I didn’t expect to see what I have seen. I am extremely impressed by what you have done here at Mandela National Stadium,” said Rt. Hon. Among.

The Speaker, leading a Parliamentary team, applauded President H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his passion for sports, emphasizing that sports unite Ugandans regardless of their differences in political affiliation, religion, and culture. “I urge all people to come together for the greater good using sports,” Hon. Among added.

She urged everyone not to pay attention to rumors on social media, dismissing them as propaganda. “I am here to testify that the claims of sub-standard work being done here are not true,” Hon. Among stated.

Hon. Among praised the UPDF Engineering Brigade for securing the government property by fencing the land and obtaining the land title of Mandela National Stadium. She emphasized the importance of using the land solely for sports activities.

The State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, expressed gratitude to the President and the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni, for their support towards sports development. He also commended the Speaker and Parliament for their dedication to sports activities.

The Project Engineer, Lt Col Peter Kidemuka, assured Ugandans that the stadium would be completed soon with high quality. He highlighted the challenges faced by the UPDF Engineers Brigade and their commitment to delivering quality work.

The Speaker disclosed that the 17.7bn balance was approved to boost the progress of the renovation work. The project, which began about 20 weeks ago, is currently at 85% completion and is expected to be finished by 24 May 2024.

The Speaker was accompanied by various officials, including the Commissioner of Parliament, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and Sports Ms. Ketty Lamaro, Commissioners from the Ministry of Education and Sports, Chairperson Board of Mandela National Stadium Mr. Muwanga Edward Barlow, Commander UPDF Engineers Brigade Col Godfrey Tukamwakira, and members from the National Council of Sports, among others.
