Deputy Speaker Tayebwa Commends UPDF Engineers For Resuming Construction Of Health Centre Projects In Mitooma

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa, has commended the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineers Brigade for the resumption of construction works on health infrastructure projects in Mitooma District.

Rt. Hon. Tayebwa made the remarks during a visit to Bitereko Health Centre III and Kigyende Health Centre III, which is being upgraded from Health Centre II. He said the return of the UPDF engineering teams to the projects was a positive development, particularly after some facilities had been abandoned.

“I am happy that they have come to assess the projects and have told me they will start work next week so that they can be completed,” Tayebwa said, adding that he preferred the UPDF to continue with the projects because of its record in delivering infrastructure compared with other contractors.

Col Fulgence Miyaga, Chairman of the Construction Committee of the UPDF Administration and Civil Engineers Brigade, said the team was conducting inspections of ongoing projects across the country to monitor progress and report to the strategic headquarters.

Lt Vincent Ongaba, the site engineer for the health centre project, attributed delays to challenging terrain and the washing away of a bridge that affected access to the site. He said work would resume following the restoration of the bridge.

Lt Ongaba said the team expects to make significant progress within six months after mobilisation resumes.

The project, funded by the Government of Uganda, was initially scheduled for six months but later extended to 12 months.
