NEC Uzima Donates Water Ahead Of NFSU Uganda Cyber Run

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) commercial arm, National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), through its subsidiary NEC Uzima Limited, has donated 400 cartons of drinking water to the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Uganda Campus, ahead of the inaugural Cyber Run scheduled for October 17, 2026, in Jinja District.

The donation is intended to support participants during the run, which seeks to promote public awareness of cybersecurity and the growing risks associated with digital threats.

The Director of NFSU Uganda Campus, Air Commodore K.R. Thaakar, commended the UPDF and NEC leadership for their continued support to the university, particularly the contribution towards the upcoming Cyber Run.

He said digital forensics and cybersecurity are key pillars of the university’s academic and professional mandate, making public awareness critical in addressing the growing risks associated with the digital environment.

“As part of the campaign, we have decided to have a Cyber Run basically to spread awareness among our people, to be vigilant and more aware of the shortcomings of cybersecurity so that people are safe and their money and assets remain safe in the face of increased cyber insecurity,” Air Commodore Thaakar said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and NEC for supporting the initiative, noting that the water donation would help facilitate participants during the event.

The Head of Sales and Marketing at NEC Uzima Limited, Mr Richard Kanyomozi, thanked NFSU for inviting the company to support the initiative and reaffirmed NEC Uzima’s commitment to continued collaboration with the university.

“We are grateful to be here supporting the Cyber Run, and we shall always be there to cooperate and continue supporting whatever comes, since we are from one family,” Kanyomozi said.

The Cyber Run is aimed at raising awareness about cybersecurity and encouraging the public to take precautionary measures against digital threats, including identity theft, cyberbullying and online fraud.

The event will also equip participants with practical knowledge on securing digital devices and personal credentials, with the aim of reducing vulnerabilities to cyber threats.
