UPDF Engineers Trained in Land Law and Estate Management

124 soldiers from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Engineers Brigade completed specialised training in land law and estate management at the Uganda Military Engineers College in Lugazi.

The programme focused on strengthening the management of public land and reducing disputes linked to land use within the force.

Presiding over the closing ceremony, the College Commandant, Col Dr Eng Charles Muhigirwa, said engineers handle a significant portion of the UPDF’s land-related responsibilities and must be well-grounded in the laws that govern land ownership and use.

Col Muhigirwa noted that limited knowledge of land policies often results in conflicts, delays in projects, financial losses and the displacement of communities. He urged the soldiers to apply the knowledge gained to prevent such setbacks and maintain professional standards when dealing with land and estate matters.

The Commandant of the Legal Training Centre, Col Susan Mwanga, said the course was tailored to give soldiers a practical understanding of land ownership and acquisition. She added that the training will help reduce disputes and promote lawful land practices in the UPDF.

The ceremony was attended by commanders, staff officers and instructors within the Lugazi Cantonment.
