Brig Gen Muheire Urges New UPDF Recruits to Uphold Discipline Before Training

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Director of Operations Other Than War, Brigadier General Kenneth Muheire, has called on newly recruited candidates to maintain high standards of discipline as they prepare for military training at the Basic Military Training School, Kaweweta.

Brig Gen Muheire, leading the recruitment team in the Bunyoro region, addressed recruits from Hoima District and Hoima City who had successfully completed the physical screening in Hoima District.

He praised them for choosing what he described as the honourable profession of serving the country. “Serving in UPDF is a calling. The decision you have made today will transform your lives from zero to heroes. You will enjoy this profession if you maintain discipline,” he said.

Explaining the decision to require recruits to travel to the training school at their own cost, Brig Gen Muheire said it was intended to test their commitment and demonstrate patriotism. He warned against favouritism during training, cautioning that it could cause distractions and jeopardise their success.

At the same event, Hoima Resident City Commissioner Badru Mugabi congratulated the candidates on their recruitment, reminding them that their journey was only beginning. “This is not the end of the process; you still have a long way to go. You must train and pass out, which is essential to becoming a soldier,” Mr Mugabi said.

He urged the recruits to remain disciplined and focused throughout their training to secure their future roles as defenders of the nation.

Recruitment Team 5 oversees the Mid-Western Bunyoro region, which includes Masindi, Kiryandongo, Buliisa, Hoima City, Hoima District, Kikuube, Kagadi, Kibaale, and Kakumiro districts.

The exercise, running from 5 to 13 August 2025, aims to enlist 504 individuals from the region into the UPDF.
