The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force has concluded its second Commanders’ Drill Competition, held under the theme “Commanding the Skies and Leading on the Ground.” at the Uganda Air Force College in Nakasongola District.
Presiding over the closing ceremony of the competition on behalf of the Commander Air Force, the Chief of Staff – Air Force, Brigadier General David Gonyi, emphasised the central role of drill in building a professional force. He said it enhances discipline, cohesion, operational readiness, teamwork, and mission focus..
He observed that drill goes beyond ceremonial display, stressing that precision and coordination are critical elements of military effectiveness.
“Precision and coordination in drill are more than a show. They represent the ability to move as one team and reflect the muscle memory of discipline within the force,” he added.
Brig Gen Gonyi commended all participating teams for their strong performance, saying the level of excellence demonstrated, if sustained, would place the Air Force in a strong position ahead of the Chief of Defence Forces inter-forces drill competition scheduled for July.
The Commandant of the Uganda Air Force College, Brigadier General Allan Kalanzi, commended both leadership and participating units for their commitment.
Brig Gen Kalanzi commended the instructors and other stakeholders, noting that they had laboured tirelessly to produce the results witnessed and deserved recognition.
“The months of training have revealed both strengths and areas for improvement, but these are manageable and will enable the Air Force to perform even better in the forthcoming inter-forces competition,” he said.
The event drew attendance from wing commanders, unit commanders, group commanders, directors, and other senior officers within the cantonment.
