UPDF 4 Division Hosts Allied Officers In Strategic Field Visit

A delegation of allied student officers from the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC), Kimaka, visited the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 4 Infantry Division Headquarters in Gulu today, as part of a field study tour.

The delegation, consisting of officers undertaking master’s degrees in security and strategic studies, was received by the Division Commander, Major General Felix Busizoori.

In his address, Maj Gen Busizoori outlined the division’s operational mandate, underscoring its central role in preserving regional stability and honouring the historical legacy of Northern Uganda.

He described the region as one of great historical significance, stating that the division has long served as “a centre of excellence in providing security.”

Maj Gen Busizoori also highlighted Uganda’s longstanding culture of hospitality, which has supported the country’s ability to host a significant refugee population, approximately 75 per cent of whom reside in Northern Uganda after fleeing conflict in neighbouring nations.

He noted that many individuals remain in camps due to the lingering impacts of past conflicts, particularly those who grew up during the insurgencies between 1990 and 2008. “Many of these individuals grew up in Internally Displaced Persons camps. We are taking deliberate steps to address this by promoting ideological orientation and mindset change to help them reintegrate and return home,” he said.

The visit was also attended by Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja, the Deputy Division Commander, alongside departmental heads and senior staff officers.
