UPDF 3 Infantry Division Passes Out NCOs After Ideological, Leadership Training

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division has passed out Intake Five Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who completed a three-month Ideological and Leadership Course at the Division Headquarters, Moroto Barracks.

The trainees were drawn from various units across the Division and underwent training aimed at strengthening their leadership skills, discipline and understanding of military ideology.

Presiding over the pass-out ceremony, the outgoing 3 Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Wilberforce Sserunkuma Karate, described NCOs as the backbone of the army and urged them to embrace their leadership responsibilities with discipline and commitment.

“Today marks not the end of training but the beginning of renewed responsibility in your careers. The successful completion of this course is a testament to your hard work and commitment in the force,” Maj Gen Sserunkuma said.

He underscored the importance of ideology in military service, noting that the UPDF was founded on principles that should continue to guide its conduct and mission.

The Division Operations and Training Officer, Col Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye, commended the Division Commander for supporting the training and urged the graduands to share and apply the knowledge and values acquired with fellow soldiers in their respective units.

Outstanding Trainees Recognised

Several trainees were recognised for outstanding performance during the course.

Pte Mwebaze Emmanuel emerged as the Best in Range, while L/Cpl Bwire Paul was named Overall Best. S/Sgt Maayi Leonard was recognised as Best in Leadership, while Pte Ajeru Cicilla was named Best Female Trainee.

The ceremony also marked the conclusion of the Artillery Course for Intake Two, comprising 56 trainees.

Pte Wandera Denis was named Overall Best, while Pte Liya Kuzaita emerged Best in Field and Pte Acayo Lona was recognised as Best in Class.

The ceremony was attended by senior and junior UPDF officers, officers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority and Uganda Police Force, Resident District Commissioners and other invited guests.
