UPDF Supports Lwengo With Health, Safety And Sanitation Donations

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has donated an assortment of items to different communities in Lwengo Lwengo district as part of its ongoing efforts to give back to communities in the Greater Masaka region while celebrating the 44th Tarehe Sita Anniversary.

The items included a delivery bed for Kinoni Health Centre IV, reflector jackets for boda boda riders, and dustbins for market vendors, among others.

The Lwengo Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Emmy Katera applauded the Government of Uganda and the UPDF, noting that the National Resistance Movement government has brought significant developments, including peace, stability, and infrastructure.

“It’s from 1986 that we got the first disciplined force in Uganda,” Mr. Katera remarked.

He appreciated the donations and urged the community to use them responsibly.

Col Kalyango, the Lwengo District team leader for Tarehe Sita activities said, “As we celebrate the 44th Tarehe Sita Anniversary, we are giving back to the community as a way of appreciating you for the role you played in liberating Uganda.”

While interacting with boda boda riders, he urged them to live responsibly and prioritise their safety to reduce road accidents.

The Lwengo community expressed overwhelming gratitude for the UPDF’s generosity.

“We are so thankful for the UPDF’s kindness, their cleaning of the town, and their donations. We also appreciate them for valuing boda boda riders, and we promise to maintain peace and stability,” said Mr. Ibrahim Buyindo, a local resident and chairman of the Lwengo boda boda riders.

As the UPDF team concluded their community service, they were met with cheers, applause, and heartfelt appreciation from the people of Lwengo.
