Residents of Ssembabule and Bukomansimbi districts have applauded the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces for their intervention through live saving medical services. They commended the medical for their hard work, timely operations, and dedication to their duties.
Lt Col Dr Joseph Mwesige, the team leader in the area, revealed that the medical team has conducted numerous life-saving major and minor surgeries for community members.
He emphasized the importance and timeliness of the UPDF medical team’s deployment, stating that within one week, they had successfully carried out 900 surgeries at Butenga Health Centre II and Lwebitakuli in Ssembabule, 700 in Ntusi, 500 at Kissa Hospital in Bukomansimbi, and 700 in Bigasa. Additionally, the team attended to over 800 patients in mobile outreach clinics at Kagogo Health Centre II.
Dr. Hellen Kasaija, an obstetrician-gynecologist from General Military Hospital Bombo, expressed gratitude to the Joint Staff Medical Services for allowing them to undertake such an important task.
Dr. Kasaija highlighted the significance of these medical outreaches, emphasising that the UPDF’s presence has helped save mothers who might have died from maternal-related complications.
Other services provided during the outreach included malaria testing, counselling for HIV patients and youth, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), services, and dental care, among others.
