Hundreds Benefit From Free UPDF Medical Camp In Wakiso District

Hundreds of residents turned up for free medical services during a two-day health camp organised by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces 1 Infantry Division at Namayuba Health Centre IV and St. Yusuf Church of Uganda in Gobero, Wakiso District. The initiative was part of the 44th Tarehe Sita celebrations.

During the camp, residents were encouraged to take advantage of the free medical services aimed at improving community health and well-being. The UPDF medical team provided a range of services, including safe male circumcision, HIV testing and counselling, cervical cancer screening, and dental care, among others.

Beyond healthcare, the UPDF also carried out community service activities such as cleaning Namayuba and Gobero trading centres, reinforcing their commitment to giving back to the people.

Residents expressed their gratitude to the President of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the UPDF for the continued support and praised the army’s generosity and the quality of services provided during the medical camp.

Tarehe Sita, celebrated annually on February 6, marks the historic 1981 attack on Kabamba Barracks by the Popular Resistance Army, led by Gen. Yoweri Museveni.

This event sparked the armed struggle that later led to the formation of the National Resistance Army (NRA) and the eventual liberation of Uganda.

As part of Tarehe Sita Week, the UPDF engages in community-oriented quick-impact projects as a gesture of appreciation for the public’s contribution to Uganda’s liberation struggle.

The theme for this year’s Tarehe Sita celebrations is: “Celebrating Pan-African Solidarity and People’s Sacrifice in the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy for Socio-Economic Transformation.”

The health camp will conclude with a friendly football match between the 1 Infantry Division Football Team and Young Simba FC of Bombo.
