The 3 Infantry Division has received a donation of 1,320 iron sheets from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to support the renovation of various infrastructure projects at Rubongi Cantonment.
The donation followed a formal request by the Division Commander, Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, and advocacy by Honourable Colonel Doctor Victor Nekesa, Member of Parliament representing the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces in the 11th Parliament.
Maj Gen Sserunkuma said, “We are grateful to the Prime Minister’s Office for selecting Rubongi. These materials will go a long way in improving our facilities, and we commit to ensuring they are used responsibly and effectively.”
He said a construction committee would oversee proper usage and progress, instructing that the sheets be allocated only to buildings deemed ready for roofing.
Col Dr Nekesa noted that her involvement reflected her constitutional mandate to advocate for the welfare of those she represents in parliament.
Brigadier General Rutainama, Rubongi Cantonment Commander, thanked both Maj Gen Sserunkuma and Col Dr Nekesa for prioritising Rubongi among other units in the division.
The ceremony was attended by commanders and staff officers from the division and cantonment.
