UPDF, Security Agencies And Residents Clean Gulu To Mark 45 Tarehe Sita Anniversary

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 4 Infantry Division, alongside other security agencies and local residents, carried out a series of community activities in Gulu City as part of the commemorations to mark the 45th Tarehe Sita anniversary.

The activities were conducted in the divisions of Bardege-Layibi, Laroo-Pece and parts of the central business area. They included a citywide clean-up of markets, streets and public spaces, sanitation exercises at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, and medical outreach services at Pece Seed Secondary School.

The 4 Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, praised the President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief, H.E. Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for his leadership in building a “professional, disciplined and dedicated force” ready to protect Uganda’s sovereignty.

He underscored that Tarehe Sita goes beyond marking a calendar date, describing it as a symbol of unity and an enduring partnership between the military and civilians.

“Tarehe Sita is not just a day. It represents the values that bind the UPDF and the people, and our shared responsibility to build a peaceful and prosperous country,” he said.

Maj Gen Busizoori encouraged residents of the Acholi sub-region and West Nile to take full advantage of the free static medical and surgical services being offered by the UPDF as part of the anniversary celebrations.

“We have chosen to give back the revolutionary dividends of peace and development to the citizens through the construction and renovation of social service facilities, as well as the provision of free health services by our engineering brigade and medical teams across the country,” he said.

During the exercise, assorted items were also donated to various groups, including mechanics, boda boda riders and garage operators, as part of efforts to support livelihoods and promote hygiene and public health.

The event was attended by senior UPDF officers, representatives of sister security agencies, local leaders, community members and other regional stakeholders.
