Major General Asaph Mweteise Challenges SFC To Turn Drill Victory Into Combat Excellence

The Special Forces Command (SFC) has celebrated its victory in the second edition of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Inter-Forces Drill Competition, with the Command leadership receiving the winning team and championship trophy at SFC Headquarters in Entebbe, Wakiso District.

SFC emerged overall winners of the competition, taking home the championship trophy and a cash prize of Shs50 million.

The Commander SFC, Major General Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, congratulated the participants for their outstanding performance, describing the victory as a reflection of the professionalism, teamwork, dedication and determination expected of Special Forces personnel.

He commended the team for bringing honour to the Command and urged the troops to translate their success on the drill ground into broader military capabilities.

“This was a CDF drill competition, but it does not end there. I want us to win in combat because, after all, we are Special Forces. I also want us to win shooting competitions,” Maj Gen Mwetiese said.

He applauded the instructors and commanders for their contribution to the team’s success and urged the personnel to sustain the momentum by preparing early for future competitions.

The Deputy Commander SFC, Brigadier General John Bosco Asinguza, described the victory as part of the Command’s established culture of excellence, noting that SFC has secured numerous trophies in previous competitions.

He attributed the Command’s success to sacrifice, courage, endurance, teamwork and relentless preparation, emphasising that sustained success is built through hard work and attention to detail.

Brig Gen Asinguza further highlighted the importance of parade drill in developing alertness, coordination, confidence, leadership and unit cohesion among troops.

The Chief of Staff SFC, Brig Gen John Mango Baraza, described drill as a foundation of military bearing and said the latest victory should reinforce the maintenance of high standards across the Command.

He noted that SFC has also demonstrated its competitive edge in other fields, including sports, where the Command has previously secured several trophies.

Brig Gen Baraza cautioned the team against complacency, saying other formations would work hard to reclaim the title.

“Train as hard as possible to ensure that the trophy is not taken away from us,” he urged.

The team leader, Maj Stephen Mukiibi, praised the participants for remaining focused despite long hours, intense pressure and personal challenges encountered during the competition.

He said the team approached the competition as one Special Forces Command rather than as individuals or separate units, a spirit he credited for their success.

In addition to winning the overall championship, SFC emerged victorious in the Officers’ Sword Drill, while Lt Gordon Akandwanaho was named Best Junior Officer.

Maj Mukiibi said the victory should inspire SFC personnel to maintain high standards and demonstrate total commitment whenever entrusted with a task.

The the second edition of the CDF Inter-Forces Drill Competition brought together personnel from the various units of the UPDF in a test of military drill, discipline, coordination and precision.
