3 Infantry Division Celebrates Success At CDF Drill Competition

The 3 Infantry Division has celebrated its outstanding performance after emerging first runner-up at the recently concluded 2nd Edition of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Drill Competition.

The Division’s drill team, led by Major Godfrey Mugenyi, represented the formation in Foot Drill, Cane Stick, Pace Stick, Crop Stick and Sword Drill. The team competed against 14 formations and secured second place, earning Shs15 million in prize money.

The Division also excelled in the individual categories, winning Best Pace Stick Drill and Best Foot Drill.

The Division Commander, Brigadier General Michael Walaka Hyeroba, commended its members for their discipline, hard work and commitment to representing the Division.

“You have made 3 Division proud. You went as ambassadors and represented us with discipline and precision. Drill is the foundation of discipline and military professionalism,” Brig Gen Hyeroba said.

He commended the officers and personnel who contributed to the team’s preparation, saying the achievement was a result of collective effort.

Brig Gen Hyeroba urged troops to emulate the discipline, teamwork and precision demonstrated by the drill team in their daily duties, particularly in supporting efforts to maintain peace and security in Karamoja and surrounding areas.

Maj Mugenyi thanked the Division leadership for the financial, logistical and moral support provided throughout the team’s preparation and participation in the competition.

During the ceremony, Brig Gen Hyeroba also presented a medal to Private Owich Amina, who emerged as the Best Pistol Shooter at the recently concluded Inter-Forces Shooting Competition held in Gulu.

He said the award was the first of its kind in the history of 3 Infantry Division and was intended to recognise exceptional performance while motivating other female soldiers to pursue excellence.

“Pte. Owich Amina has broken a record. This medal has never been awarded in 3 Division before. Let it be a motivation to all our militants that excellence has no gender,” Brig Gen Hyeroba said.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Division Commander, Col Winston Mugarura, Brigade Commanders, Battalion Commanders, Heads of Departments, officers, militants and members of the Division drill team.
