UPDF Troops Complete Ideological Training To Strengthen Discipline And Unity

A total of 118 soldiers from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Division have successfully completed an ideological orientation course designed to deepen their understanding of the Force’s core values and reinforce civil-military relations.

The pass-out ceremony, held today at the Division Headquarters in Makenke, was presided over by the Division Commander, Major General Paul Muhanguzi. The graduating cohort, comprising 109 men and 9 women, formed the ninth intake of the programme.

The eight-week course focused on building political awareness, patriotism, discipline, and unit cohesion among the troops.

Maj Gen Muhanguzi stressed the vital role ideology plays in maintaining discipline and fostering a people-centred military. “The army is not just about combat readiness. Our political and ideological awareness is what makes us a people’s force. It helps us stay disciplined and builds stronger ties with the communities we serve,” he said.

He encouraged the soldiers to uphold the UPDF’s values and represent the Force honourably within their units.

Sgt Ngobi Gerald, WO1 Mutembuzi Erasto, and Pte Achom Sarah Lydia were recognised as the top performers in the course and received certificates and gifts for their outstanding achievement.

Among the distinguished guests at the event were Deputy Division Commander Col James Kasule, 2 Division Political Commissar Lt Col Remmy Mutabazi, Assistant Superintendent of Police Innocent Yuma, Superintendent Obbo Franco, and Lt Col JKK Menya, Commanding Officer of the 13 Artillery Battalion.
