UPDF Officers Challenged To Embrace Discipline And Honour Heroic Legacy

Troops of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division have been called upon to uphold discipline, embrace ideological principles, and reflect on the legacy of national heroism throughout their military service.

This message was delivered by Colonel Allan Kyangungu, Deputy Division Commander of the 3 Infantry Division, while officiating the launch of a leadership and ideological training course for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs). He stood in for the Division Commander. “I urge you to uphold the discipline that defines the UPDF, promote ideological values, and reflect on the spirit of heroism,” said Col Kyangungu.

He noted the training coincides with Uganda’s 36th Heroes Day anniversary, a moment to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the nation’s forefighters, led by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, H.E. Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the values born of their struggle for Uganda’s freedom and development.

Col Kyangungu reminded the troops of the UPDF’s historical mission and revolutionary principles, urging them to maintain obedience, resilience, and teamwork as cornerstones of exemplary military conduct.

Lieutenant Colonel Lenin Peter Kyongo, representing the Division Operations and Training Officer, stated that the training is designed to enhance leadership and ideological clarity among NCOs, who he described as the backbone of the force. He emphasised that the programme aims to strengthen operational efficiency and mission readiness.

Also in attendance were Col Richard Butungi, Division Administrative Officer; Lt Col Moses Deke, Commander of the 203 Anti-Aircraft Brigade; alongside other senior and junior officers and enlisted personnel.
