Rt Hon Kadaga Calls For Unity In Diversity To Propel Socio-Economic Transformation

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has called for the unification of diverse cultures to drive socio-economic transformation.

Speaking at a cultural gala hosted by students of Intake 20 at the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) Kimaka in Jinja City, Hon Kadaga emphasised the critical role of cultural diversity in fostering societal development. “This ceremony relates to our cultural roots and origin, which is a clear testimony to the love and value of our cultural diversity that brings us together, learn from each other, and leads to development,” she said.

Hon Kadaga urged the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) to retain cultural studies in its training, noting that it enhances understanding and promotes Uganda’s rich heritage. She also advocated for blending cultural practices with technology to boost productivity while respecting traditions. “When we are not at war, we can continue to promote such diversities to signify that the army is part of the community,” she remarked.

Maj Gen George Igumba, Commandant of SCSC, praised the gala as a celebration of Uganda’s cultural richness. “This is the 20th Cultural Gala celebrated at Kimaka, which has brought us together to witness the rich, diverse cultures that make up our communities,” he stated. He stressed that cultural preservation should respect others’ traditions and viewed it as a key dimension of security in today’s complex environment.

The event, attended by dignitaries including Brig Gen (Rtd) Mulonda, Defence Attachés from East African Community partner states, cultural representatives, and community leaders, reinforced the role of cultural unity in national progress.
