Discipline And Training Emphasised At UPDF Artillery Graduation

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Artillery Division celebrated the pass out of 58 personnel from a rigorous training course held at Kibuku Training School in Ntoroko District.

The ceremony, presided over by Colonel Jimmy Ssenkungu, Commander of the 101 Artillery Brigade, highlighted the significance of discipline and professionalism in military service.

Col Ssenkungu underscored the necessity of continuous training, stating, “Toil much sweat during training and shed little blood in war.” He encouraged the officers to pursue advanced courses and refresher training to refine their military skills. He also stressed the importance of physical fitness and good health, cautioning against excessive drinking and irresponsible sexual behaviour, which could undermine both their careers and well-being.

Major Onesmas Kakuru, the Division Political Commissar, focused on financial discipline, urging the graduates to channel their earnings into productive ventures and utilise Wazalendo SACCO loans wisely.

Exceptional graduates were recognised for their performance, with Major Silver Tushabomwe receiving the award for best overall, Lieutenant Gideon Nkurunungi excelling in academics, Corporal Mugisha Boney being the top fieldwork performer, and Warrant Officer Class One Ojok James honoured as the most disciplined student.

The event, attended by senior and junior army officers along with artillery students, reinforced the UPDF’s commitment to fostering professionalism, discipline, and continuous improvement within its ranks
