Maj Gen Bakasumba Commends British Training Support For UPDF

The Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, has praised the British government for its ongoing support to Uganda, particularly in training the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).

 

He made these remarks while receiving a delegation from the British military, who paid a courtesy visit to him at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) Headquarters in Mbuya.

Maj Gen Bakasumba said that the training has enhanced the capabilities and resilience of UPDF soldiers, contributing significantly to maintaining peace and stability in Somalia.

 

He emphasised the need to build a patriotic and robust force in Somalia to defend the country.

 

Maj Gen Bakasumba expressed the UPDF’s willingness to strengthen the existing good relationship and continue working together.

The Head of British Defence Staff, East Africa, Brig Gen Olly Bryant, commended the UPDF for its efforts in maintaining peace and stability in Somalia.

 

He pledged to continue supporting the UPDF, particularly in advanced training that will enhance the resilience and capabilities of UPDF soldiers.

 

Present at the meeting were: the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine Brig Gen Alex Olupot, UK Defence Attaché to Uganda Lt Col Toby Barrington Barnes, and other senior UPDF officers.
