UPDF Troops at IPSO-TC Singo Conduct 45th Tarehe Sita Activities in Nakaseke

Troops of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) stationed at the International Peace Support Operations Training Centre (IPSO-TC) in Singo carried out a series of community activities in Nakaseke South as part of the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations.

The activities included cleaning in Semuto, Kapeka, Namusaale and Kona-Kilak townships, as well as a medical outreach conducted at Semuto Health Centre IV. In Kapeka Town Council, leaders delivered mama kits and mosquito nets to expectant mothers, while hundreds of residents received free treatment from UPDF medical teams.

While launching the activities at Kapeka Town Council grounds, Nakaseke Resident District Commissioner Byabasaijja Rose Mary highlighted the importance of the 1986 liberation struggle led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

She praised the President for what she described as a courageous and selfless decision during turbulent times, noting that the gains of liberation, coupled with steady leadership and the discipline of the UPDF, have laid a firm foundation for the country’s peace and stability.

The Commandant of IPSO-TC Singo, Col Moses Nabaasa, reflected on the historical journey of the National Resistance Army, now the UPDF, saying Tarehe Sita remains a central institutional tradition that reinforces the force’s commitment to serving Ugandans beyond the battlefield.

He said that the week-long outreach is intended to honour the sacrifices of the liberation struggle, strengthen the bond between the army and civilians, and promote national unity.

Leaders, including mayors, chairpersons and community representatives, applauded the UPDF for consistently extending social services to the public and supporting community development.

Uganda celebrates 6 February each year as the founding date of the UPDF, marking the 1981 attack on Kabamba Barracks that launched the protracted struggle leading to the 1986 liberation.
