The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has donated scholastic materials worth 75 million shillings to a total of 93 schools in the Kigezi Sub-Region as part of the 45th Tarehe Sita 2026 celebrations.
He thanked the UPDF leadership for extending a helping hand to selected schools in Kabale, Kisoro, Rubanda, Rukiga Rukungiri and Kanungu districts.
“This is a way of supporting the 1997 presidential initiative of making sure every Ugandan school-going child is attending school with proper support materials,” he said.
Maj Josephat Tumukunde presented the scholastic materials, including textbooks, pencils, pens, and exercise books, to Kayungwe Primary School and further called upon parents to use the existing peace to improve education standards in schools by engaging more in their children’s activities.
He also thanked all stakeholders that have supported the 2026 Tarehe Sita activities in Kigezi Sub-region, such as the ‘Vision Group’ that donated textbooks to support schools in need.
“We call upon parents to strongly embrace the values of education now that they have received a boost of scholastic materials from UPDF,” he said.
Tukamusiima Clare, the head prefect, expressed gratitude on behalf of the pupils’ fraternity, saying, “We thank the government for putting UPE in place and the UPDF for including us in their programme and providing us with scholastic materials,” he said.
The donation is part of the UPDF’s efforts to support education in the country and promote the values of patriotism and national unity.
