“Medical Camps Are For Sharing Knowledge,” Says Brig Gen Kiyengo

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Director of Medical Services Brig Gen Dr. Moses Kiyengo has today noted that the UPDF static and mobile medical camps in Ibanda district provide an opportunity for sharing knowledge among health officials.

“The purpose of the medical camp is to work with other doctors and share different techniques, improve their services through training and above all treat patients,” he explained, adding that they also provide health education to individuals on issues like hygiene, diet, and family planning, among others.

Nearly 200 people in the Sub Counties of Ishongororo T/C, Kashozi, Nyamarere, Bisheshe, Kishongororo, Rwenkobwa, and Kanyabigiri have been treated by a combination of UPDF medics and regular staff to mark the 42nd National Birth of the UPDF.

This medical outreach camp began on 28th January 2023 and will run until the 6th of February 2023.

Ms. Ahimbisibwe Bonny and Mr. Oreebe Jackson both teachers of Nyabuhikye Church of Uganda (COU) Primary School, where a two-classroom block has been constructed by UPDF Engineers expressed their gratitude at the unprecedented giving hand from the UPDF.

They noted that the acts bring the school management and the entire community a lot of joy.

“When we got the news of construction, we were very happy. The work is up to speed because it is barely a month since this block was started. Our wish is that every government project is run by the UPDF,” Ms. Ahimbisibwe lamented.

The Director of Studies at Bihanga Primary School Mr. Abaho Nazario said that he’s very grateful for the work done by the UPDF to uplift the level of the school.

He said that the parents are now relieved in terms of constructing more infrastructure that can cope with the emerging swelling number of students.

“We are very grateful because the materials used are of high quality and we pray that such initiatives should prevail for the betterment of all Ugandans,” he said. A two-sectioned four-roomed latrine has been constructed at this school.

An engagement with the community members was a clear illustration that the UPDF has a close working relationship with the people of Uganda.

The masses applauded UPDF for bridging a different army compared to past armies, into discipline, courage, wisdom, and ideology, among other values.”There is peace, when you get it, you get everything,” One of the patients commented.

A retired Rev. John Bernard Rutankundira commended the unity, peace, and freedom enjoyed in their homes as a result of the liberation struggle.

He said UPDF is a hard-working force, disciplined, and a blessing to Ugandans.

The symbolic 42nd civil-military activities in Ibanda district, remind service Men and Women, and indeed members of the public that the UPDF is one with the population.
