Lyantonde Residents Encouraged To Utilize Prevailing Stability To Improve Welfare

The Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Hon Gen David Muhoozi, has called on the residents of Lyantonde to capitalize on the current peace and stability to improve their living standards, urging them to “take advantage of the prevailing peace and stability” to better themselves.

 

He made these remarks during the handover of UPDF projects at the Lyantonde Town Council Headquarters in the Lyantonde District.

 

The Minister encouraged the community to not only work for sustenance but also to engage in the money economy to improve their welfare.

 

Gen. Muhoozi also reflected on the history of the National Resistance Army (NRA) and emphasized the importance of Tarehesita.

“We celebrate Tarehesita to give back to the community and appreciate them. It’s our social corporate responsibility to share our culture with the community,” the Minister stated.

 

He thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his exemplary leadership, particularly in instilling discipline within the UPDF, making it a people-centered army.

 

Gen. Muhoozi also urged parents to send their children to school and encouraged participation in government programs such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga Youth Livelihood initiatives.

Lyantonde District Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Asaba David Nkojo, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his role in stabilizing the country.

“It’s because of President Museveni that you see everything in place — the peace, stability, and programs like the Parish Development Model. It’s all thanks to our president,” Mr. Asaba said.

Lt. Col. Godfrey Mwesigye Rwabujumbure, the Tarehesita team leader in Lyantonde District, reminded the public of the significant contributions from historical figures from Greater Masaka who joined the liberation struggle, including the late Lt. Gen. Pecos Kutesa, Maj. Gen. (rtd) Phenehasi Katirima, and Brig. Gen. (rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande.

He also praised the local community and the district leadership for their cooperation during the Tarehesita week.

Mr. Muhangi Fred, the Lyantonde District Local Council Five Chairperson, commended the UPDF for their discipline in the area.

“We have been here with UPDF soldiers for more than a month, and not a single case of indiscipline has been reported,” Mr. Muhangi said. He also thanked the UPDF for the services and projects provided to Lyantonde District.

 

During Tarehesita week, numerous donations and activities took place, including free medical camps, soccer matches, town cleaning, and the distribution of scholastic materials and delivery beds, among others.

 

The event was attended by senior UPDF officers, district leaders, religious leaders, and members of the local community
