Lwengo Residents Urged to Set Aside Political Differences for National Progress

The Minister of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Hajati Minsa Kabanda, has called on the residents of Lwengo District to set aside political differences and unite for a common cause.

Hon. Kabanda made the remarks while officiating at the handover of the Tarehesita projects in Lwengo District.

“I want you to be responsible citizens and put political differences aside to serve our country,” she urged the gathering.

The Minister expressed her gratitude towards the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), commending their respect for civilians, which she said contributes to the professionalism and people-centred nature of the army.

She highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the UPDF, including the construction of the Entebbe Airport passenger terminal and the improvement of roads around Kampala, emphasizing their role in national development.

Hon. Kabanda further urged the local community to continue supporting government programs aimed at socio-economic transformation.

Lwengo Resident District Commissioner Mr. Emmy Katera applauded President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for initiating the liberation struggle that brought peace to Uganda.

He encouraged the local community to embrace discipline and cooperation, qualities exemplified by the UPDF during their time in Lwengo.

Brig Gen Deus Sande, Commander of the Armoured Division, stated that the UPDF’s support for the community is a reflection of the love the army has for the people.

“We’re celebrating Tarehesita Day every year to commemorate the positive relationship we have with civilians,” Brig Gen Sande said.

He urged the public to maintain a strong bond between the UPDF and the community.

Col Kalyango, the team leader for Tarehesita activities in Lwengo District, praised the local community for their cooperation and support during the week-long Tarehesita celebrations.

The event was attended by the Area Member of Parliament, Hon. Sentayi Muyanja, UPDF officers, religious leaders, district officials, and local community members.
