UPDF Boosts Environmental Security With 200 Tree Planting At River Mpanga

Officers and Militants from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Mountain Division, alongside the Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports, and Culture, planted over 200 trees at the River Mpanga bridge in Fort Portal City, Kabarole district today.

The initiative was spearheaded by Col Paul Muwonge, Deputy Commander of the Mountain Division, and Col Deus Taremwa, Director of Education, Sports and Culture – Land Force.

Col Muwonge praised the UPDF for its commitment to enhancing both environmental and national security. He stressed the importance of documenting the initiative’s progress for future reference, particularly in light of the upcoming 16th Edition of the CUP.

He also expressed gratitude to Fort Portal City Mayor Asaba Ruyonga for providing the land for the planting, as well as to various stakeholders, including the Catholic Church of Uganda and several NGOs.

On behalf of the Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports, and Culture, Col Taremwa highlighted the necessity of discipline among soldiers to ensure safe and fair competition. He warned against any unfair practices, reminding attendees that the primary aim of the organising committee is to promote integrity in all activities.

The event was well-attended by both Senior and Junior Officers, along with Militants from the Mountain Division and the Joint Staff Headquarters.
